So I was sitting here, feeling bummed because my story wasn't turning out how I hoped. My writing sucked, my characters were doing stupid things, the plot wasn't moving. All of that stuff. I'm 3-4k words in (with no particular section fitting with another), but I just realized that all I needed to do was split my main character into two people! Well, that's not all I've done. I've also thrown some aspects of him into existing characters that are around him, and changed the time focus of the story.
I can go to bed now because my characters and story are fitting together! Not that anybody cares, but the main character is now the younger brother of the former main character. The former main character disappears 1/4 of the story in and shows up again close to the end. So, my wordcount is back at zero while I re-plan the new story, but I'm liking the few little practice paragraphs I've written so far. I like my new main character a lot better, and the plot makes more sense. It sounds more confusing, but it's a lot more straightforward.
The downside? This means that to tell the full story I originally planned I will have to write at least three sequels.
